Minister says abuse witnessed in Mayo care home could be going on elsewhere

Minister Kathleen Lynch has said she cannot provide assurances on the safety of people in care homes. She was speaking after an undercover reporter at Aras Attracta in Swinford County Mayo recorded footage of residents in one unit being mistreated, including being dragged, pinched, slapped and kicked. The Minister for Disabilities Kathleen Lynch says an investigation is ongoing but she has to wait for the results to see what disciplinary action will be taken. Minister Lynch also says undercover investigators must now be considered as a way of ensuring high standards in care homes. AUDIO: The HSE has already branded the scenes 'unacceptable', but their National Director of Social Care Pat Healy says that doesn't do it justice. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
