National Water Safety Week Launched

Cork is among the top counties in terms of death by drowning. The information comes as part of the National Water Safety Week which was launched today by Minister Phil Hogan. This year drinkaware.ie and Irish Water Safety have teamed up create the campaign "Never Ever Drink And Dive Or Swim And Sail". The aim of the joint campaign is to promote the dangers of mixing alcohol with water based activities. On average 140 people drown in Ireland every year, with 21 people drowning in Cork in 2011. A number of factors contribute to drowning with alcohol consumption a contributory factor in a number of cases.
