Nearly 14,000 people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance for 10 years
Almost 14,000 people have been receiving Jobseeker's Allowance for at least the past 10 years.
Just over 4,000 are in Dublin, while there are almost a thousand in Cork and 872 in Donegal.
The Department of Social Protection says a further 18,200 people have been getting the payment for between six and ten years.
Fianna Fáil's social protection spokesman, Willie O'Dea, says the state hasn't put enough emphasis on the long-term unemployed.
"Even if they're requiring training, even if they go into a class, you'd need some confidence training there - they wouldn't have the confidence to go in.
"A lot of the unemployed, the long term unemployed have issues with homelessness, addiction, mental health etc.
"You'd really need a multi-disciplinary approach I think, with a special focus on the long term unemployed."
