New County Mayor Elected

Cllr Mary Linehan Foley has handed over the chains of office to Bandon Councillor Gillian Coughlan following the uncontested election.
Cobh Councillor Cathal Rasmussen will take up the role of deputy mayor.
Cllr Coughlan has a degree in education from UCC and is a teacher at Coláiste an Phiarsaigh in Glanmire
Mayor Coughlan has stated that her initial priority will be to support the people and businesses of Cork County as Ireland emerges from the pandemic.
Speaking to RedFM News, outgoing Mayor Cllr Mary Linehan Foley says she has really enjoyed her time as mayor:
"It's been an exciting year, a challenging year, but I got to spend it within the communities and meeting all the community groups, volunteers and stuff like that which, as normal as mayor, you might have been out of the country quite a lot, so it suited me because I'm a community based person and I love to be in my own area I suppose so. I've enjoyed the 12 months, I'll be handing back the chain I'd be telling the next mayor that's coming in- the incoming mayor- to enjoy every minute of it, because it has flew. The 12 months has flew, but a lot of the projects that I was involved in, have come to fruition so I'm quite excited about that."
