New Group examines plans to merge Cork Councils

The case for an extension of the city boundary was presented to a new group set up to examine proposals to merge Cork City and County Councils.

It follows comments by the Lord Mayor to RedFM News in recent week that he'll reconsider his position if the McKinnen group reccomends one super authority. 

He expressed concerns that parts of Cork will lose their identity if a merger is given the go ahead. 

The group is due to report back at the end of this month however it's expected that time line will be extended.
