New initiative needs to be extended to all HAP recipients

A new initiative to help homeless people secure a house Leeside, has been given a cautious welcome.

The Cork City Homless Placefinder service will be rolled out next month, but homeless charity Threshold says it needs to be extended to everyone who is in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment.

This new scheme will help those who are currently homeless to pay a deposit and one month's rent in advance for a property, on behalf of a tenant.

However Threshold say many of those who are in rented accommodation and in receipt of HAP, are on the verge of homelessness, as the scheme does not cover the cost of spiralling rents Leeside.
