New initiative will increase chances of securing homes with HAP payment

A new initiative by the city council will help to secure homes for those on the HAP scheme.
The Cork City Homeless Placefinder Service will come on stream from the first week of March and will enable the council to pay a deposit and one month's rent in advance for a property, on behalf of a tenant.
Up until now the Housing Assistant Payment was paid one month in arrears, but paying a deposit upfront could make the difference between securing a property and not.
It comes as recent figures from the Department of Housing show there are now 269 people homeless Leeside.
Speaking to RedFM News Paul Sheehan from Cork Simon says the changes are welcome, but the HAP payment needs to be increased:
