New Lord Mayor Of Cork City To Be Voted In This Evening

The event will take place away from City Hall for the first time ever
The Lord Mayor of the city will hand over the mayoral chains to a new mayor this evening.
Joe Kavanagh's successor will be chosen at the City's annual meeting at the sports hall at Coláiste Choilm in Ballincollig at 7pm...
It's the first time the new Lord Mayor will be chosen at a place other than City Hall.
It's widely expected Ballincollig Councillor Colm Kelleher will be voted in as the new Lord Mayor.
Speaking to RedFM News, outgoing Lord Mayor Cllr Joe Kavanagh has this advice for his successor:
"I hope the incoming Lord Mayor will have better fortune in terms of restrictions and so on, because it's a wonderful opportunity to be Lord Mayor of this wonderful city. And to be allowed to express your purpose, your targets and your ambition for what you want to do for the city, and not be restricted. Unfortunately I was significantly restricted throughout the year. But you know, where there's a will there's a way"
