New Lord Mayor of Cork says he's confident the city and county council can work together to secure a city boundary extension that is acceptable to all

Councillor Tony Fitzgerald made the comments ahead of a city council meeting this afternoon, to review the details laid out in the MacKinnon report

The exact details of the extension have yet to be defined, but the report recommends the inclusion of Ballincollig, Blarney, Glanmire, Little Island, Carrigtwohill and the area around Cork Airport.

It also recommends the city pay compensation of around €40 million a year to the county for lost revenue base.

Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald says he will work hard to ensure a fair compensation package to the county council.
