New Mental Health team for Cork Prison

Cork Prison is to get a dedicated mental health team to help prisoners with mental illness.

The team, which will be led by a consultant, is part of a larger programme being undertaken by the Health Service Executive, with a similar scheme being rolled out in Limerick and Castlerea.

It's been reported in today's Evening Echo that up until now prisoners used the services of the Psychiatric In reach and Court Liaison Service Operating at Cloverhill prision.

This new team will now be dedicated to the inmates of Cork prison.

The initiative was revealed by the Minister for Mental Health Helen McEntee.
