New Parking Incentives To Be Introduced In City Centre Today

New parking incentives are to be introduced from today in a bid to encourage people to visit the city centre.
From 12.00 Noon, the public can use the Black Ash Park and Ride facility, Kinsale Road free of charge, six days a week, with buses running every 15 minutes including Saturday.
From 12.00noon - 6pm in both North Main Street and Paul Street, customers will get 4 hours parking for the price of 2 hours that day.
It comes as a traffic ban on Patrick St introduced two weeks ago has led to outrage among traders who say business and footfall are down with the city centre being likened to a 'ghost town'.
The new measure, which is designed to improve public transport, prohibits cars from using Patrick St between the hours of 3pm and 6.30pm.
A public meeting was held last night and traders were quick to highligt what they say is the 'crippling' effect of the new measure. Many have pledged to take further action if the ban isn't reversed.
However the City Council insists the new measure needs time to bed in.
Speaking to RedFM News Chief Superintendent Barry McPolin says they're taking a balanced approach to the new ban and will continue to man the entrances to streets to ensure private cars don't drive down the main street:
