New plan for the rollout of multi-denominational schools

A new plan's been unveiled to speed up the rollout of multi-denominational schools.

28 areas have schools earmarked for amalgamation and closures, but only 10 have so far been transferred to a multi-denominational system, and 90% of primary schools are still run by the Catholic church.

The Department says the new process will draw on lessons already learned, including working with landowners and communities on an open basis, and the possibility of live transfers, where a school stays open while its patronage is changed.
