New prison in Cork to open at the end of 2015

It will replace the facility on Rathmore Road.
A multi million euro prison is to open in Cork at the end of the year.
The new facility will replace the overcrowded prison on Rathmore Road, and is being developed on a six-acre greenfield site next to the current facility.
Construction on the 310-inmate prison will finish by the end of next month and will be opened in December.
The new facility will also see an end to the current ‘slopping out’ practice, with toilets built into each room.
The €35 million project represents the largest single investment in infrastructure by the Irish Prison Service.
