New Report On Homelessness Launched In Cork

Five key triggers for homelessness have been identified in a new report being published in Cork this morning. Housing crisis, relationship breakdown, substance misuse, financial circumstances and poor mental health are the main factors that lead to people ending up in emergency accomodation. How Did I Get Here? is a report compiled by Cork Simon on pathways to homelessness. The life histories of 50 people staying long-term in the charity's emergency shelter were analysed. Researchers found that homeless people have been affected by a variety of risk factors over a prolonged period. Many have been overwhelmed by multiple crises - some personal and some society-wide. As well as identifying the key triggers - this report looks at the supports that are needed by those in emergency accomodation and those who are in danger of sliding into homelessness.
