New report says Mental Health Care and Recovery centre in Bantry not fit for purpose due to its size

The Mental Health Commission found that while the centre on the grounds of Bantry General Hospital is compliant with the vast majority of regulations, the unit is cramped, with a lack of personal space for patients
An announced annual inspection at the three-storey, 18 bed, acute adult ward in August last year found there was a strong ethos and focus on community treatment and interventions at the facility, which achieved 88% compliance on the inspection.
Feedback from residents also said that the unit was clean, the food was of a high standard and the nursing staff were approachable and understanding.
However the report from the independent body also noted that communal rooms were not large enough and the four bed dorm rooms were cramped.
The centre was also found to be non-compliant in terms of privacy during ward rounds as confidential information was discussed in a public area of the centre, compromising residents privacy and dignity.
