New study shows majority of Cork Simon users have experienced childhood trauma

77% of service users of Cork Simon have experienced severe adverse childhood experiences.
A new report was commissoned by the homeless charity in order to develop a trauma informed approach to properly meet the needs of those availing of it's services.
The survey consisted of a questionnaire with 10 questions relating to areas of trauma from emotional and physical abuse to substance abuse and mental illness within the family.
Cork Simon says the results showed that the people using their services had suffered alarming levels of abuse, neglect and distress during their formative years.
Speaking to RedFM News Dr Sharon Lambert who undertook the survey says trauma experienced before the age of 18 has long term negative impacts on health and well being:
