No guarantees with Cork's 50 million euro flood plan

Warnings are being issued that the 50 million euro flood plan for Cork cannot guarantee that the city will never flood again.. The plan will see more controlled releases of water from the ESB dams ahead of extreme weather and various structural changes in the city and suburbs, however the Office of Public Works says even with all this work no guarantees are being offered on flooding.. The plan - is the preferred option for the city's flood relief scheme - and it will see a number of defences put in place including raised quay walls and embankments in the city centre and on the Curaheen and Glasheen rivers Barry Keane is a Mardyke resident who has been badly hit by flooding in the past and he's welcoming the proposed plan However he told RedFM News that the Office of Public Works has already admitted that the only way to guarantee no more flooding is to construct 13 feet high walls around the city Press PLAY button above to listen to the audio
