No overnight beds in new hospitals

New hospitals planned for Cork and Galway will not provide overnight beds.

An Oireachtas Healthcare Committe this week heard from a representative of Slaintecare who defended the decision saying up to 400 treatments will be available at the hospitals.

It's expected that there will be 9 theatres at the Cork Hospital.

The elective hospitals are to be built in Cork, Galway and Dublin with the site selection process now underway.

Construction is expected to begin on all sites within three years.
