Non-wearing of seat belts not a factor in North Cork school bus crash

The incident happened yesterday morning at Cregg South on the Ballyhooly to Fermoy road.

It's emerged the non-wearing of seat belts was not a factor in a North Cork school bus crash yesterday as students on board were buckled up according to a garda source.

A number of investigations are continuing today after 52 secondary school pupils had, what's being described, as a miracle escape after their bus flipped over on it's way to Fermoy secondary schools.

The incident happened shortly after 8 o'clock yesterday morning at Cregg South on the Ballyhooly to Fermoy road and it's emerged concern had been expressed about the particular stretch of road prior to the incident.

Four students were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and the rest were transported to a makeshift treatment area in a local secondary school before being taken home by their parents.

It's understood at this stage the poor weather conditions may have been a contributing factor.

Speaking to RedFM News this local says she got a shock when she heard the news as her daughter attends a secondary school in the town:
