North Cork Gardai Issue Fraud Alert

Just this month alone in North Cork alone scammers got over €20,000 in three cases reported to gardai 


Gardaí in Cork North are urging the public to spread the word in relation to fraud prevention as people are falling victim to scams on a daily basis. 

Gardaí have recently highlighted scams where people are pretending to be from Social Welfare, the Attorney General's Office, banks, delivery companies and other businesses in an effort to access sensitive information in order to scam people out of money...    

Just this month alone in North Cork alone scammers got over €20,000 in three cases reported to gardai 

In the first instance a woman contacted gardai after she received a text message claiming to be from her bank. She followed instructions in the message and entered her bank details and €14,000 was cleared from her account 

In a similar incident in the same area a man received a text claiming to be from his bank which stated that his account had been suspended due to unexplained activity. In order to reactivate it he was asked to click a link and enter details and over €3,000 was taken from his account. 

Finally a woman in the area received a phone call from a man claiming to be from her broadband provider. She was asked to download an app, which she did and entered her bank card details. Four transactions were then made resulting in the loss of almost €3,500. 

Listeners are being reminded while these callers may have your name or know some small piece of personal information, you must never give out your details by phone, text or email and do no click any links they send you, download an app or call the number they contact you from or that is stated in their email
