Number of prisoners on temporary release from Cork Prison rises

The number of inmates on temporary release in Cork Prison has increased in recent weeks.

The Irish Prison Service say that the number was 57 last Thursday.

That's an increase on the end of May, when 44 inmates were on temporary release.

The Echo report that temporary release is used to maintain social distancing, and that those prisoners have conditions to which they must adhere, including regularly signing in at their local Garda station or prison, abstention from alcohol and observing a curfew.
