Nursing Unions Warn Government Must Address Staffing Issues

INMO claim Cork University Hospital is under-staffed and say pay and working conditions at the hospital must improve

Unions representing doctors and nurses have told the government to 'get their heads out of the sand' on the recruitment crisis in healthcare.

The Irish Medical Organisation, the INMO and the Psychiatric Nurses Association met earlier to discuss the Public Sector Pay Commission report.

They say government policy won't make a difference to the health service until staffing issues are sorted.

Here in Cork the INMO claim Cork University Hospital is under-staffed with medical personnel under enormous pressure as the union claim the hospital is struggling to retain nurses as the working conditions there are poor...

Mary Rose Carroll of the INMO in Cork told RedFM News that while the hospital is recruiting at the moment the situation will never improve until pay and working conditions at the hospital improve
