Obesity and alcohol two key drivers in rising cancer rates in Ireland

That's according to Dr Brian Bird, lead oncologist at the Bon Secours in Cork.
He says 1 in 2 people will get a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.
An average of 40,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year with skin, lung and breast cancers among the most common in Ireland.
Oncologists say people can do a lot to avoid the disease by adopting a healthy lifestyle and participating in screening programmes.
Speaking to RedFM News Dr Bird says he is not surprised by cancer.
