Obesity To Hit Half Of Irish Adults By 2030

Almost half of adults in Ireland will be obese by the year 2030 - if childhood obesity is not tackled today. That is according to childhood obesity experts - who appealed to the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children this morning to address what they call the obesity pandemic. There are currently 100,000 children who are obese in Ireland - and 300,000 who are overweight. Research shows that while sustainable weight loss is extremely difficult in adults who are obese - the right programme can work for children. Audio: Dietician Richelle Flanagan - who is president of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute - said the funding has got to be allocated to tackling the issue.
