Oireachtas committee formally votes to scrap water charges
The Oireachtas committee on water has formally voted to scrap charges - and fund water through general taxation.
The position was sealed after three votes this afternoon, where Fine Gael voted to retain up-front charges.
But a second meeting for this afternoon was called off when Fine Gael members made themselves unavailable.
Sinn Féin's Eoin O'Broin says the party today tried to restore water charges trough the back door:
