Online public meeting for Cork Airport workers to be held tonight

An online public meeting for airport workers on what's been described as the "crisis" facing Cork Airport will be held tonight.
The meeting is being hosted by Solidarity TD Mick Barry who is expected to raise the workers' concerns at a Dail debate this evening on the regional airports.
The Airport is due to shut for 10 weeks between September and November to allow for essential runway repairs and hundreds of workers are expected to be placed on temporary layoff during that timeframe.
Workers are demanding that they be kept on the books of the various airport companies for the duration of the shutdown just as they have been for the duration of the pandemic.
Speaking to RedFM News Deputy Mick Barry says the State needs to step in.
"The state should make it clear to employers at Cork Airport that continued pandemic supports are dependent on the binning of the lay off plans, and deciding instead to keep workers on the company books.
"The state should be in the business of defending jobs, but not in the business of helping companies who put workers on the dole with the view of driving down the living standards of workers."
