Over 1,000 people turn out for meeting over controversial plans for M28 motorway

Over 1,000 people turned out at a public meeting in the city last night about the controversial plans for the planned M28 motorway to Ringaskiddy.
The M28 Steering Group who organised the meeting say an alternative route must be found as the current plans will lead to an increase in traffic volumes, air and noise pollution and have a detrimental impact on the quality of life for residents in the area.
It was decided at the meeting last night that a challenge will be submitted to An Bord Pleanala, and it was agreed that if the challenge isn't successful the case will be taken to the High Court and if necessary the European Courts.
A fundraising campaign is now underway to faciliate the challenge.
Speaking to RedFM News Ger Harrington of the M28 Steering Group says many people who turned up last night were outraged as they didn't realise the extent of the plans:
