Over 50s can now get vaccine from chemists
People over 50 will be able to get a Covid-19 vaccine from their local pharmacist from today.
More than 1,000 pharmacies across the country are joining the vaccination programme.
They'll initially only administer the one-shot Johnson and Johnson, however the Pfizer jab will be made available in the coming weeks.
It comes as people in the 30s are expected to be able to register for a vaccine this week.
Pharmacist Kathy Maher says it's an exciting day.
"Pharmacists have wanted to be involved since the programme began, and we're delighted that finally at this stage vaccines are coming into communities around Ireland.
"Where I work is a small village in county Meath, and they'll be delighted they know they'll have the option to have the vaccine in the community, or travel to a centre that they need to."
