Over €10 million stolen through invoice redirect and email compromise fraud last year

A company in Cork lost almost €50,000 as a result of the scam at the end of last year after an employee received an email purporting to be from their employer.
The email asked for an outstanding invoice to be made to a new account.
A second request was later made for around €70,000, however the employee flagged the request with management at that stage.
In January of this year, Gardaí say one Irish company transferred more than 130,000 euro to a financial institution in France, but the money has since been recovered.
People are being advised to verify email addresses and to use banking security systems.
