The numbers of patients waiting on trolleys in Emergency Departments last month has increased dramatically according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
The INMO says there were 473 patients awaiting admission at Cork University Hospital in August, up 74 from the same time last year.
Figures have more than doubled at the Mercy University Hospital, 98 patients were recorded on trolleys in August 2015 - that figure stood at 243 last month.
Speaking to RedFM News Phil O' Shea from the INMO says these figures have been released at a time when hospitals are unable to recruit and retain nursing staff:
