Owner of Vernon Mount would love to see house re-built

One of the owners of Vernon Mount House says he would love to see the historic house re-built after it was destroyed by fire over a week ago.
Vernon Mount was gutted in a suspected arson attack and the fire led to calls for urgent action to save what remains of the house and salvage artefacts.
Olaf Maxwell is a co-owner of the 18th century house, along with VM Developments, and says the property needs to undergo a technical examination to see how much of the house can be saved and restored.
He said that under the planning laws he has been very restricted over the years on what can be done with the house, including any temporary works, as all work has to be Council approved.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Olaf Maxwell says he's meeting with Council officials this week and will discuss all options in relation to the house including gifting it to the State.
