Paperwork delays cost Cork University Hospital €186,000 in 2019

The Irish Examiner reports the loss was due to consultants not completing paperwork within 9 months of treating patients.

The money was forfeited to insurer VHI according to an audit carried out by the HSE in February 2020.

The audit found that a single claim of €116,000 was forfeited after 'inaction' from one consultant.

CUH says they constantly engage with consultants about claims and say it would be difficult to consider any any disciplinary action without impacting patient care.
