The parents of a Cork baby who spent the first 132 days of her life in the CUMH neonatal unit have launched a fundraising drive to support the unit that gave their daughter a fighting chance at life.

Eva was born on the 22nd of June 2016, fifteen weeks premature, weighing just 820grams.

The 14-month-old is now thriving and her parents Danielle and Damien Desmond from Kilbrittain say while they'll never be able to repay the staff in the CUMH neonatal unit they're hoping they can raise money for equipment needed in the unit.

The "Burn and Shave" fundraiser is taking place this Saturday September 2nd in Spinfit in Bandon from 12 noon to 10pm. For more information or to donate go to https://www.gofundme.com/neonatal-unitcumh

Speaking to RedFM News Danielle says the staff and the support system in the neonatal unit helped her and her husband to stay strong when they needed to be:
