Patients advised to bring a companion to A&E
It comes as the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say there are not enough nurses to care for everyone as the number of patients presenting at the ED rise
Sick patients are being advised to bring a friend to A&E as there are not enough nurses.
That stark warning has come from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation who say their members are bracing themselves for one of their busiest weeks on record.
The union says there will not be enough staff to care for everyone, with up to two-thirds more patients on trolleys than this time last year.
Over 450 people are on trolleys at hospitals across the country today. 40 people are being treated on hospital trolleys at Cork University and the Mercy University Hospitals this lunchtime and in recent weeks both hospitals warned people to expect long delays due to the rise in the number of patients presenting at the ED.
Speaking to RedFM News Liam Doran of the INMO says the quality of care is being impacted due to a shortage of nurses.
