Patients asked to visit GP before presenting at CUH Emergency Department

Management at Cork University Hospital have issued a request to the public, to contact their GP before attending the Emergency Department.
The CUH has experienced severe delays over the past week, with over 410 patients attending the ED since last Monday.
Due to the increased level of activity, some elective procedures scheduled to take place today were deferred.
Figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation shows the CUH has the worst overcrowding in the country, with 40 people currently receiving treatment on trolleys.
Hospital management say patients presenting with minor ailments are experiencing long delay, and are asking where appropriate, the public explore all options before attending the A&E unit.
