Patients Will Suffer Unless Chronic Overcrowding At CUH Is Not Tackled Immediately
That's the stark warning from the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation
They say front line staff are struggling to cope with a record- high 73 patients on trolleys at CUH today.
The union say the hospital needs to cancel all elective procedures, stop all non-emergency admissions and source additional beds today and in the coming days to avoid even higher trolley figures.
CUH is one of the most consistently overcrowded hospitals in the country, with 11,066 patients on trolleys there in 2019.
Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO in Cork says the current level of overcrowding is a recipe for disaster:
