Payments begin for businesses damaged by floods

The emergency funding has been made available following Storm Desmond.

Businesses who were hit by last week's flooding have started to receive payments to fix some of the damage.

62 per cent of businesses who have applied for flood relief funding are looking for 5,000 euro or less, with the rest looking for up to 20,000 euro.

Payments have also been made to householders to replace basic needs such as clothing and bedding.

Over 30 properties suffered flood damage in Bandon after the river burst it's banks following Storm Desmond.

The ESB says that flows from the Inniscara Dam will remain at 180 cumecs today and a risk of flooding remains adjacent to the banks of the River Lee downstream of Innis-carra.

Director of the Irish Red Cross Liam O'Dwyer says payments to businesses started today.
