Peaceful Protest To be Staged Tomorrow At Curraheen Park

The demonstration is being staged as the Irish Laurels take place at the Bishopstown track

Greyhound Awareness Cork have been mounting demonstrations at Curraheen Park for the last four years in an effort to highlight their opposition to the dogs being raced

In July Barry's Tea withdrew their sponsorship of an annual greyhound race at the Cork track following concern about the mistreatment of dogs in the greyhound racing industry.

Barry's said it was "saddened and horrified by the revelations" in the RTE Investigates programme which highlighted how thousands of dogs in the industry are culled every year

The Irish Greyhound Board have condemned the acts and practices highlighted in the documentary and have since introduced d a number of short term measures to improve the health and safety of the animals involved.

Michelle Cairns of Greyound Awareness Cork told RedFM News that the protests at the Cork track have intensified since the airing of the documentary on the Greyhound industry
