People are waiting up to 6 months for mental health services appointments in Cork

Concerns have been expressed about accessibility to psychiatry, psychology and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service

The issue is being raised tonight at a meeting with TD's and mental health professionals where the impact of long waiting lists, unemployment, and the lack of socialisation will be discussed.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cork TD Donnchadh O'Laoighre says the situation urgently needs to be addressed:

"One in three people had a mental health appointment delayed due to the pandemic, or just under 50% found that they were waiting over six months for a mental health appointment. A lot of the time that is far too long when people are in very severe situations and 90% of people found that there were not enough mental health services available in Cork, we've long known that there has been significant pressure on the system waiting lists for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for psychology for psychiatry in the community for far too long"
