Permit pending for Cork to Boston flight

The route is due to take off next May.

Management at Cork Airport say the next fortnight is critical for Norwegian Air International who are waiting on a permit to operate flights from Cork to the US.

It's been revealed that US authorities are yet to grant a license to the airline to operate a route to Boston which scheduled to take off from May.

The European Commission says the delay in the permit application is contrary to the EU-US Open Skies deal which allows for any EU approved airline to fly from anywhere in the Europe to anywhere in the United States.

Cork Airport say the delay is "unprecedented" in airline history and says the airline has addressed a number of objections from US Labour organisations and transatlantic carriers and can't see a reason for any further delays to secure the permit.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork Airport's Kevin Cullinane says Norwegian Air International need an answer in the next fortnight if they are to go ahead as planned in May.
