A planned strike at 70 Tesco shops around the country has been deferred to allow talks to take place.
Both sides have agreed to attend talks at the Workplace Relations Commission next week in an effort to resolve the dispute over new contracts
Under the terms of the new working conditions more than 1,000 long serving staff would have had a pay cut imposed from Monday.
That has now been put on hold pending the outcome of the talks.
The union, which represents the majority of the workers at the Cork stores, Mandate has accused the company of attacking the very people who build up the company to what it is today..
However Mandate Divisional Organiser in Cork Lorraine O'Brien told RedFM News that there is hope of resolving the dispute through talks:
