Plans For Adopted People To Get Access To Birth Records To Move Step Closer Next Week

The Cabinet is expected to allow the legislation to be drafted when it meets next Tuesday
The government promised the information and tracing laws after the mother and baby home report was published in January.
Sinn Féin's spokesperson for children, Kathleen Funchion, is welcoming the plans:
"If it's finally coming forward, I definitely welcome that because it is long overdue. Obviously, like with any legislation but particularly around anything to do with Mother & Baby Homes or Magdalene Laundries or adoption, we would definitely have to scrutinises it to make sure that it is exactly what people who have been adopted, what they've been calling for so many years. But I would definitely welcome the opportunity to do that."
