Plans to increase the Old Age Pension

The Tanaiste is reported to be planning a 25 euro increase in the pension over the next five years.

The Tanaiste Joan Burton is reported to be planning a 25 euro increase to the old age pension over the next five years.

The Labour leader says pensions should rise in line with expected annual inflation of 2 per cent.

That would mean raising the weekly payment by 5 euro each year.

If implemented, it would result in the pension rising to 257 euro per week by the end of the next government's term.
