Port of Cork to fence off sections of quays

The Port of Cork is to fence off sections of it's quays ahead of the bank holiday to prevent large crowds from gathering.

Gardai had to clear people socilaising from the quays over the weekend after hundreds had gathered in the area.

There were 12 arrests for public order offences in the city on the Saturday.

The Irish Examiner reports that Port plans to put fencing in place in the interest of public safety and to accommodate commercial shipping traffic which is in operation 24/7.

The company has raised their concerns with publicans in the area also and are advising people not to gather on the quays.
