Port of Cork to fence off sections of quays

The Port of Cork is to fence off sections of its quays ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend in an effort to prevent large crowds from gathering.
Gardai had to clear people socilaising from the quays over the weekend after hundreds had gathered in the area and 12 people were arrested for public order offences in the city on Saturday.
The Port of Cork is to erect fencing in the interest of public safety and to accommodate commercial shipping traffic which they say is in operation 24/7.
The company has raised their concerns with publicans in the area also and are advising people not to gather on the quays.
Speaking to RedFM News Conor Mowlds from the Port of Cork says they have been monitoring the public gatherings at the quays over the last few weeks.
"It's reasonable to say that we saw a change, particularly last weekend in the good weather.
"From that perspective, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind the public that those city quays are a 24/7 working port area for commercial ships, for plant, for other equipment, for HGVs, for traffic.
"From that perspective it's in the interests of the public that we're taking these measures."
