Potential For Nine Cork Garda Stations To Reopen
Nine Garda stations across Cork City and County could reopen as part a review by the Policing Authority.
The stations in Adrigole, Ballinaspittle, Ballyfeard, Ballygurteen, Glenville, Goleen, Knocknagree, Rathduff and MacCurtain Street - were closed as part of a nationwide money saving exercise by the Department of Justice.
To date, just over €2.5 million euro has been generated for the State from the sale of closed Garda stations across the country, and links have been made to an increase in crime in rural areas as a result of the closures
The Office of Public Works say they are awaiting details of the State's plans for properties in Cork identified as surplus to requirement.
However speaking to RedFM News Minister for the OPW Sean Canny Says the review could see local Garda stations restored in some rural areas:
