Premature babies that are fed breast milk show better brain development than those given formula.
That's according to new research from the University of Edinburgh, which made the discovery after studying the brain scans of 47 babies born seven or more weeks early.
It found that at those fed breast milk for at least three-quarters of their time in hospital showed improved brain function.
Researchers believe that helping mothers provide breast milk in the weeks after giving birth could improve the long-term outcomes for babies born prematurely.
