Private Cars Will No Longer Be Allowed On Patrick Street From Next Week During Evening Rush Hour

From next Tuesday between 3pm and 6.30pm the only traffic allowed on the street will be public transport, taxis, cyclists and emergency vehicles.
The new traffic arrangements are part of a programme of work that has been ongoing for the last 10 months, including changes to traffic flows, signal upgrades and bus priority measures.
One of the key elements of the changes is the prioritisation of bus movements on Patrick Street during busy periods after it emerged that last year Bus Eireann carried over 12.6 million passengers across 2,600 daily Cork city routes from Patrick Street.
City Council Chief Executive Ann Doherty told RedFM News that the reliance on cars is likely to change with investment in public transport and in particular the bus service in Cork:
