"Professional Pay For Professional Work"
That's the call of operators and staff from a Cork creche who are protesting outside Tánaiste Simon Coveney’s constituency office in Carrigaline this morning.
The protest comes ahead of a larger nationwide demonstration organised by the Early Years Alliance next week to demand a solution to what they say is a crisis in the sector.
Around 1,300 creche workers are expected to demonstrate during work hours on Wednesday to demand a solution to high insurance premiums, an increasing administrative burden and low pay which they say is threatening the survival of the sector.
The Department of Children has contacted providers to say they will be docked state funding if they close their creches on the day.
Speaking to RedFM News outside the Tánaiste's office, owner of BEL Childcare in Douglas John Bowman outlines the demands of childcare providers:
