Protest Mounted Outside City Hall Over Cork's Homeless Crisis
'People are dying, this is a crisis.'
That's according to Independent Cll Diarmuid Ó Cadhla, who is protesting against the homelessness crisis with the 'Housing Action Group' on the steps of City Hall today.
Two homeless women died within three months of each other on the streets of Cork at the end of last year - in September Jennifer Dennehy was found dead in a tent at Gilabbey Park, and Kathleen O'Sullivan was found dead outside the homeless shelter on Anderson’s Quay last December.
The Housing Action group are staging a 24 hour protest today demanding the City Council declare the housing and homelessness crisis an emergency, with the aim of putting pressure on the government to set up a National Emergency Committee on the issue.
Speaking to RedFM News outside City Hall, Cllr Diarmuid Ó Cadhla outlined his reasons for the protest
